We are officially ready to participate in our triathlon next Sunday. At least I think so!
Yesterday, Jackie and I drove out to Sandy Hook to immerse ourselves in the tri experience. Our first stop was the beach. Neither of us has practiced open water swimming during our months of training. This was necessary.
Fortunately, probably because of all of the training we have done, the swim seemed almost easy. We entered the ocean, swam half way to the buoy (just like the lifeguard told us), and then proceeded 3/4 of a mile down the beach. Woohoo! The ocean was amazingly calm and the process rather painless.
Next Sunday, September 9th, we will be swimming on the bay side. The water there seemed to be pretty choppy when we checked it out. The course seems very manageable and it is only a 1/2 mile swim compared to the 3/4 of a mile swim we did in the ocean. Our swim, next Sunday, will take place in this protected cove. The beach looks rather small considering the number of participants. I guess we will just have to wait and see how this whole thing works.
Today I am feeling a bit relieved because of the success we had in the water yesterday. We also did a bike ride and a bit of a run, just to get the feel of doing all three in a row at the site. Previously we had completed a "mock" tri at our gym so I am sure that we are pretty well prepared.
Training is light this week, after Sunday, in anticipation of the race. I am nervous and excited. I say, "bring it on, I am ready!"
