One of my very favorite spring/summer activities is watching the finches at their feeder in our yard. I received my first upside down finch feeder from a former student on June 10th, 2009. That is the same day Mark and I had our first date.
Since then I have kept a finch feeder in the yard. This year the feeder was taken down in the fall during Sandy and it just never made it back up. It actually broke during the winter. Finally, a couple of weekends ago, I invested in a very durable, lifetime guaranteed, upside down, finch feeder. The Cadillac of finch feeders. And now I wait for the tiny little gold wonders to re-appear. I actually saw a couple perch on the feeder, but their visit was short lived.
I guess there are too many "big" birds around. But I am hopeful that the little finches will gather their nerve and start arriving in droves the way they have the past few years. Until they do, I am waiting.
