It was a valiant effort, right up to nearly midnight, but the border is not fitting correctly and I do not want to proceed in haste. I will just have to un-sew and then re-sew all of the border strips, I don't have that kind of time. But, I tried.
This quilt is the buck-a-block quilt from the Village Quilter, about 8 years ago. I love the blocks of this quilt, but I did not "love" the finishing of it as presented by the shop. They used primarily green fabric and I am not a fan of green. I switched the green for pink and was really moving right along when I lost the directions for the twinkling stars border. For years the directions were missing and the blocks sat, waiting.
I finally found the directions when I was cleaning out my office 2 years ago. I added the setting blocks and the inner border and then, well, I folded it and but it away. The border seemed to over-whelming for me. I now know why, it is a b****h. That's putting it mildly. I finished the stars, most of them. Mark and I fiddled with the design and decided that alternating the stars with some white space would really give the stars some movement.
Then I started to piece the border. It's not working. It just doesn't fit and I have put too much time into this quilt to settle for a job that is poorly done. So tonight, this is where it is at...The border needs to be ripped out and I will do that in a couple of minutes. The quilt will go back up on the wall and I will finish it sometime before school starts in September. I would rather have it done well than just done.
