Saturday Road Trip

Saturday we took a ride over the Tacony Palmyra Bridge into Pennsylvania to visit Mark's Aunt Bette. What and interesting journey it was!Fortunately, I found a quilt shop along the way to distract us from the traffic. I had no idea that broken down trolleys could create such havoc!After shopping, for a bit, and visiting with Aunt Bette, for a bit, we decided to head out to the Spring House Tavern for a bite. What a great meal and equally enjoyable company!We had such a great afternoon catching up with Aunt Bette and sharing stories. This was our first visit to Aunt Bette's home and we can't wait to plan another. It turned out to be the perfect way to spend a Saturday!

Something to Play With

Found this fabric on a brief visit to a new quilt shop. I must finish the six projects on my short list so that I can play with this cute fabric! This is what I call incentive!

Well Sated

Dinner with our dear friends, Robin and Leon, is just what we needed this week. So often we run from one thing to the next, trying hard to squeeze it all in, whatever "it" happens to be at the moment.

Tonight we just stopped. We cooked, we chatted, and we chewed. We laughed, we learned and we enjoyed the company of friends that we get to spend time with just too infrequently. We did it all with a stillness that allowed for the experience just to sink it. We savored the moments. 

What a perfect evening! We should do this more often!

Taking it Easy

On Sunday I did run 3.5 miles and last night I did swim over a half mile, but as for the rest of this week, I am taking it easy. A couple of late nights at school and a couple of stressfull days require a bit of lay low time. 

I don't think it will be a disaster, my next run isn't until 10/27, I have time to train. Right now, I am taking time to relax and keep up with school work. Everything will fall into place soon enough. At least that's what I keep telling myself!

Back to School Manifesto

I have always wanted to create a "Back to School Manifesto" so that I enter the school year with intent. Creating a summer manifesto has really helped me to focus myself on those things that I deem most important and it allows me to dismiss situations that serve only to steal my energy.

I am hoping that by creating this manifesto I can reduce the stress and anxiety that I generally experience this time of year. Here's hoping!

Back to School Manifesto 

This school year I hope to plan and organize more.

I will wake up earlier so that I can accomplish more with my days.

I will establish a training program that will help me to develop strength but will not overwhelm me.

I will write every day, especially for Project Life.

I will spend time relaxing each evening.

I will find time to explore nature.

I will snuggle with my hubby.

I will giggle.

I will organize my space so that it promotes creativity.

I will finish some lingering home improvement projects.

I will embrace the fall and enjoy my home.

I will express gratitude.

I will make the most of each day.

Finding Balance

This Sunday was nearly perfect. There was time for scrapping. There was time for laudry. There was time for waffles and there was time for running. I think the only thing that got in the way of today being perfect was the Giant loss to the Carolina Panthers. School work got graded, safties were selected and notes on lesson plans were completed. Now, time for a movie with my hubby!

Summer’s Last Stand

Since tomorrow is the officially start of fall I decided to spend today preparing. We picked up these gorgeous leeks at the farmers' market this morning.Right now they are simmering in a pot filled with carrots and potatoes to make a delicious potato-leek soup. Next to the pot of potato soup is a pot filled with mushroom/lentil and carrot soup which will soon become tonight's dinner. Fall is not fall without a big pot of soup!Scrapbooking supplies were moved to the kitchen table so that I could scrap while I cook. On the agenda for today, catching up with Project Life and the mini album from our seven thousand mile road trip. Today was a very relaxing and productive day. Hoping for the same type of day tomorrow!

Tomorrow I Tri

Tonight I Ran,

and it was a good run after my knees figured out that I wasn't stopping! The moon was full and the air was refreshing. It was a quiet evening on the road. There is something very peaceful about running after 9pm and I really enjoy having the road to myself. 

Well, I wasn't really by myself. I had a few friends along for the run... 

 

 

 

 

I remember hearing a quote that went something like this: "It is not the road you travel but whom you travel with, that makes the difference." Tonight I had the best company!

Back to the Pool

Fall training started today, it needed to. I was anxious to start back to training, but I have been anxious about my knees. I want to be mindful as I move forward. One key component of my new training regime is strength training, focusing on my core and legs. Here's hoping that adding strength training will eliminate many of my current knee issues.

So tonight, I was back in the pool. The plan I chose is a 10K running plan and my goal is to complete the Bridge Run on November 3rd. In order to prepare for the race I will run Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Friday is a rest day while Wednesday and Saturday are strength training days. That leaves Monday, which calls for stretch and strengthen. Again, a six day training schedule but a decreased time commitment overall. I feel good about moving forward. Tonight I did my cross-training with Jackie, my tri-buddy. Next week we switch swimming to Wednesday evening in order to fit the new schedule. It felt good to get in the pool, although the need for sweatpants and a sweatshirt felt just a little odd!
