Today, as I am taking down Christmas, I thought it would be fun to take a closer look at some of our decorating traditions.
This tree, the one that sits on my dresser, is one of my favorite trees in the house during the season. I bought this tree the day after Christmas, 2009, as I was preparing to travel to Seattle. My thought, at that time, was that each year we would buy an ornament that was a frame and include a selfie portrait of us from that year on the tree. As of this year, there are five frame ornaments on the tree.
The star atop the tree was bought at Restoration Hardware in Seattle and I think it is the perfect touch for the top of the tree.
In 2009, the first year, I purchased this little ornament at Target along with the tree and the little ball ornaments.
In 2010, we purchased the frame ornament at Biltmore when we visited in April of that year. The photo was taken on that visit as well!
In 2011 we had a heck of a time finding a frame ornament. We found this little gem in our favorite holiday shop in Haddonfield. The photo included, while not a selfie, is one of my favorite photos taken on our wedding day.
For 2012, the ornament used is one that I think I also bought in Restoration Hardware. The photo was taken in NYC, that December. We are standing on the corner of 5th Ave and Central Park South. The lights in the background are from the trees in the area in front of the Plaza. I added a tulle bow because I just love tulle!
Finally, this year, the photo included is a selfie that Mark took of us as I was trying to take a closeup of something I noticed. This photo was taken during our cross country trip this past summer. I love the way he framed himself between my arms and I thought that it perfectly suited this little oval frame.
This little tree, that sits on my dresser, will always be one of my favorite holiday decorations. Today, as I pack away a part of Christmas, I am enjoying the process of reflecting on the decorations we have and why they are important to our holiday celebrations.
