My favorite cookie recipe of all time is Brown-Edged Butter Cookies. The recipe appeared in a book my mother owned called simply, Christmas Cookies. The book was actually part of a pair of books. The second book, Christmas Candies, was where I found my favorite hard candy recipe. While I no longer make candy, I still enjoy baking my brown-edged butter cookies. The books are long gone but I don't worry, I have this classic, a recipe written on an envelope while on the phone with my mother in 1989.
On the same envelope you will also notice the recipe for my Nanny's shortbread, always made with half butter and half margarine, and applesauce dough for making tree ornaments. Isn't it cool?
I think it drives poor Mark crazy that I see no need to change the way I store my recipes! Well, it works for me and that's all that matters, right at the moment!
