This is a throw back Thursday from way back, kindergarten, 1962, to be specific.
I started school at School #2 in Clifton, New Jersey. School # 2 was located on Van Houten Avenue and I remember taking a bus to school most days. There were a couple of days when I threw a fit and my mom had to call my dad to come home to drive me to school. I cannot imagine that happening more than once, my father was not thrilled with me!
School #2 was an older building. The school opened in 1949. The cafeteria was in the lower level and in my memory it feels like a basement of sorts. I am not so sure about that. I do remember the very heavy steel doors which were very hard for me to handle.
I remember making a brown construction paper house book, because the house we lived in was brown. My mother kept that house book in her desk drawer until long after I had grown and moved out.
I remember liking school.
I remember wearing dresses every day, girls weren't allowed to wear pants.
I remember plalying on the playground and I remember dancing around the May Pole on May Day.
How cool is it that I can remember so much just by glancing at a photo? So happy that I have photographs from my childhood.
