During the summer I prefer to wear skirts. Plain and simple. This summer, I hate to admit, most of my skirts are just a little too tight. I have been hankering for a new outfit that actually fits, is comfortable and is, most of all, cute.
This skirt will fill the bill. I called up my tri buddy and convinced her that we needed to figure this out together. We hopped in the car and sped over to JoAnn's. With our 50% off coupons in hand, we scoped out all the knits, caressing the farics and draping the fabrics to see what they would look like as skirts. Okay, we didn't do all that, I did. But, I don't think Jackie minded!
Tonight I decided to start figuring it out on my own. On Pinterest I searched "make maxi skirt" and I was rewarded with quite a few options. The most helpful was the post from The Winthrop Chronicles. I actually love the fabric she used but could not find anything like it today. Another tutorial is available at Pink When, her skirts were made with bright chevron prints. Cute!
After a little bit of measuring, a bit of pinning, and a few zips of the rotary cutter, I was ready to sew!
Unfortunately, I never trust my measurements and I always, always, add about an inch to be sure that my clothes fit. Well, I have not put on that much weight! Tomorrow I will take it in and add the yoga waistband. But, I am thrilled with the result!
The fabric today was $12.99 a yard. With a 50% off coupon, that made for a very inexpensive skirt. I bought 2 yards, but would probably be able to get away with 1 1/2 yards. I will calculate that all when I finish. I am thinking there is a new workshop in the works!
I also found a new online fabric shop, Girl Charlee. Lots of knits to choose from and their prices are terrific!
