Thursday with Bunkey

Bunkey and I try to spend every Thursday together. Usually that means I head over to Bunkey's after work and we usually sew or scrapbook. Grab a quick dinner and then head back to either sewing or scrapbooking. It really is a good time. We catch up with each other's lives and it gives each of us a chance to spend time doing what we love. It doesn't hurt that we like each other also!

Well, tonight we switched it up a bit. Bunkey had found a free workshop presented by Kennedy Health over at the Cherry Hill Library, entitled "Create Your Reality...Vision Boards!" We love the idea of vision boards so she signed us up.

What a great time we had. Of course Bunkey finished hers, mine is in process. 

Bunkey has selected her word for 2015, Enchantment. Her vision board represents what she wants to create during 2015. My vision board is an attempt to encapsulate what I want to create for myself over the next few years. Life goals. Moving ahead, changing careers and relocating...as I said, my vision board is in process and will take some definite crafting. It does, however, feel good to have it started!

Tuesday in Second Grade, on Wednesday

We are becoming scientists in 2nd grade. We have read about different scientists and what "real" scientists do. We have set up our notebooks and discussed discoveries we could make. And now, we are ready. Tomorrow, with notebooks and hand lenses in place, we will investigate thumbprints. It is going to be good fun!

As scientists, we know, that we need to share the results of our investigations. So curious to see exactly how they decide to do that. It is going to be a fun day in second grade!

Today...

I enjoyed the colors of the season. A quick trip to Mt. Holly to shop for a couple of fabrics for my last Supernova block had me out for a bit. I love the colors of fall and the quilt shop did not disappoint me!

Throw Back Thursday, Three Years Ago

Three years ago today, the day that we unloaded the truck with all of Mark's belongings into this little house. It was a Sunday. The Giants were playing the Seahawks and the game was not televised. Jason came over to help and we watched what we could on my laptop.

It's three years later and we are still trying to fit everything into this little house!

Our New Normal

Getting back to school involves a huge adjustment for me. I am not a morning person and being at school before 7:30 takes its toll. Now that we are officially beyond the "new" of the school year, it feels good to be creating our new routines. 

The best part of new routines is making time for exercise. Being injured and dealing with the after effects of minor surgery left me a bit heavier. Now I am two weeks into a regular schedule of going to the gym at least three days a week. This week the pool opened again so I am able to switch up between the elliptical and swimming. I have lost a couple of pounds and my eating habits are improving. My tri-buddy and I are making progress and planning events for the coming season. I am still considering The Bridge Run, I will have to see about that!

I have set aside every Thursday to spend with Bunkey. We sew and catch up, not that there is a great deal to catch up on since we talk every day but you know how it is with your BFF, there is always something to talk about!

Today I marked the last pile of student papers that I had hanging around and I am just about ready to set up my new files. Things are moving in the right direction.

Tuesday in Second Grade, Pre-empted

Today I am pitching the Collingswood Book Festival which will take place this Saturday, October 11th. This is one of our favorite fall events and this year Mark will be working the booth sponsored by the South Jersey Writers' Group. They will be selling their anthology of speculative fiction entitled, Reading Glasses.

This is what our couch looked like as I folded the t-shirts for the group. As I turn off the light in the living room every shirt is bagged and tagged. A job well done.

This is a very busy weekend for us. In addition to the book festival, Saturday is also the date for Bloktoberfest in South Philly. It takes place on South Street, between Broad and 18th. The event is free, but if you would like to drink beer, it is best to buy a bracelet online. It will run from noon until 8pm. I have volunteered the past two years and it is always a good time. Last year we were there for nearly the entire event. It was good fun!

Jason works for Bella Vista Beer Distributors, one of the sponsors of the event. He spends a good part of his day organizing volunteers, moving kegs from one place to another and basically troubleshooting all kinds of issues. I am looking forward to Saturday. It is always a good time when I get to see and support Jason for a terrific cause. The event is not for profit, with beer proceeds directed back into a variety of neighborhood initiatives addressing education, green space and public safety. Supernova Update, Late September

I received my September block from Julie a little after she had received mine. I cannot believe that my block was in the mail first - that's a first. Just look at how pretty this block is. I love the pink in the corners and the center square with a touch of the blue color that we had selected.

This is the collection of blocks that I had before I sent September's along to Julie. Do you see it there, bottom row, center? I am bad because I never complete my blockat the same time I make Julie's. I am hoping to catch up this weekend, but I am not so sure about that! 

We do not have our assignment for our final block in October and that is a bit scary since the 15th is not far from now. In fact, I really want to be on time with this block since I have made Julie wait just about every month since we started. I am excited about finishing this quilt and I cannot wait to see how different, or similar, our final projects are! This has been so much fun!

The Best Birthday - Evah!

It all started with a walk outside and the chance observation of a few fallen leaves that were the most extradinary color.

 

Next up, waffles! You know I love waffles in the morning!

 

The raindrops on the October Daisies was just too pretty to walk by without taking a few photos! Next it was off to Starbucks for lunch thanks to a special gift from Susie and Don. They know me too well!

I spent the day decorating the house for fall. I just love the colors of fall. Unfortunately I could not find all of my floral decorations so they will have to be added later. But, so far so good!

Next, dinner with the gang. I was so excited to see Jason and Jessica! We had such a wonderful time together, I wish it could have lasted longer. But, we had tickets for the Ritz and they had plans in Philly, so we said goodnight!

Steel Magnolias at The Ritz, fabulous! Then we were off for one more adventure - Rootbeer floats at Iron Hill! OMG - delicious!

I could not have planned a better birthday. All day was just what I would have chosen and it just happened that way. A special thank you to everyone who helped make my weekend the celebration that it was. I am one lucky lady!
