was tough, really tough. This year I have a very emotional and sensitive class. Tuesday absolutely tested their limits. Thankfully this book, A Handful of Quiet, arrived in the mail yesterday!
"Pebble meditation" is a unique way to introduce children to the practice of meditation. I believe that my students would benefit from being taught strategies that will help them to calm and center themselves. Pebble meditation was developed by Zen master, Thich Nhat Hanh.
I have not fully immersed myself in A Handful of Quiet, but I love the idea of meditation for children which involves them "in a hands-on and creative way that touches on their interconnection with nature." I believe that helping students to develop strategies which help them to deal with disappointment and emotional stress is teaching them a life-skill. We will see how it goes.
