There has always been a plan, in my mind, for what my garden was to look like. Back in 2009, when I was building the back garden and stone patio, Mark would ask me what I expected the garden to look like. My response was always, I’ll know it when we achieve it. Well folks, we are close to having achieved my original plan and boy does that feel good. Over time, my vision has changed. Originally, the vegetables were to go into the center of the back yard. Now they are permanently housed in the far back corner of the yard behind the stone patio.
The area behind the dining-room window, where I thought I would place roses, will now be filled with hydrangea, yellow cone flowers, and blue salvia. A veritable carnival of color.Thrilled is an understatement. It has been years in the making, but finally we are close to my original vision and that is a good thing.
This is absolutely one of my favorite photos. To say Jason and Jessica are close would be an understatement. They are each others’ best friend. I found them asleep on the couch. The story is that Jessica was on the couch and when she got up Jason spread himself out. Not one to be pushed off for good, Jessica found a comfy spot. They both fell fast asleep. I love these kids so much and I am so happy that they love each other as much as they do!
Absolutely. I was pushed into the current century by my husband. I don’t know about this. I still don’t know how to operate my old phone! But it’s cute and it’s from Apple. What could go wrong...Let’s not think about that right now!
When Marie joined us on Sunday for the Strawberry Social, she brought with her two quilts that I had delivered to her for quilting. You see, Marie owns a long-arm machine and I almost always have my quilts quilted by a long armer. It really is a life-saver. I would never get a quilt done if I had to quilt them entirely on my own.
I was so excited to see my quilts complete, I really wasn’t expecting them!The Paris quilt is the one that Marie, Bunkey and I all made at our Saturday in Paris sewing extravaganza. Rememeber, we ate French cut beans and salad with French dressing? In any case, mine is the last to be completed. Marie quilted and overall flowing design with white thread.
The other quilt, I have been working on for years. Finally, back in March, I found the perfect fabric for the backing. It is beautiful now that it is entirely quilted.The photo does not do it justice. It is nearly king sized. Marie quilted an overall design using yellow thread and it is so striking! I love it!Now you know, the quilts are not nearly done. I still have to sew the binding on the quilts and add a label to the back. This quilt, made with my favorite colors, will be used on our bed or in the living room. Actually, it will be used where ever we need to keep warm!
I am so pleased that the backing was perfect and that Marie thought to use the yellow thread. It is perfect!Now to get the bindings cut and these quilts finished. I will just add them to the pile of quilts to finish!
Beautiful flowers and delicious food. A great day for creating strawberry quilts. Bunkey made a creamy strawberry soup and I made a fresh strawberry salad that included arugula from our garden. Seriously, we needed all of this food to inspire our creation of teh strawberry quilts. As I sit here typing, not much has gotten done. Marie finished the most and she started after Bunkey and I did. That’s not right. I think Bunkey and I are at the same point, finished with the stem and leaf row. Still so much to do and then next step is the most difficult.
So what did we do, we had dessert. A great strawberry pie with nuts and oats in the crust. Yum.Lesson plans are calling so my strawberry social quilt is put away til the next time we can get together!
Just look at it! It has no idea what color it’s supposed to be. I do like periwinkle but a closer look revealed that there is bright pink around some of the petals and blue around the others. I was going to take a close-up photo of my poor confused bush, but for the second time in one month, I cannot find my little camera. Of course, the battery died in my big camera. I think I have failed at photography 101. In the meantime, I will wait to see what color this dear little bush decides upon.
Actually, they are not quite second graders just yet! Today started my summer school experience. I have about 23 soon to be second graders and they are a fun group. I over planned our day, of course. Tonight I finished up the windsocks for a few of my little friends.
The children were thrilled with them and I am quite pleased myself. When we spoke about the 4th of July, many of the students stated that watching fireworks was their favorite part of the holiday. So tomorrow, you guessed it, we are painting fireworks. Isn’t this a great use of all those leftover bendy straws? I can’t take credit, I saw it on Pinterest! But just look at how cool they turn out... This is just my sample. Tomorrow I will add white paint and shake glitter over the wet paint so that the white parts sparkle. I think they will look cool and the students will be amazed at what they created. I need to get myself organized for tomorrow and start planning fun activities for next week!
