Thursday evening I attended a customer appreciation event at my local quilt shop in Mt. Holly. I was so excited to see that the witch, from The Witches Ball, was still up and in great shape. I wish I had something this large to place in my yard. I very rarely get any kiddos because I am at the end of a cul-de-sac in which the neighbors don’t do halloween. I did invite all the children that I have seen around so I am hoping for a good night. Mark is on his way to Target to find something that will light up our front yard. I have a good feeling about this!

Throw Back Thursday, Halloween 1993
While I prepare my Halloween costume for school tomorrow, I am reminded of Halloween’s spent with my children when they were younger. Neither one of my children liked to wear masks. Jessie always wanted to dress-up and Jason always wanted a minimalist costume.
When we lived on LBI, both children would take part in the island Halloween Parade. In 1993, the parade was hosted by the Beach Haven School which was the school Jason and Jessica attended. I was a volunteer at the parade that year and I walked with Jason’s class. I have always enjoyed Halloween with my children. I love the parades and I love taking them trick-or-treating.
I feel a touch of meloncholy around Halloween these days. We very rarely get trick-or-treaters and I truly miss that part of this holiday.

Cozy Weather
Just the other day I was perusing new and interesting books at a local quilt shop and I happened upon Bright and Bold Cozy Modern Quilts. I thought to myself, if I start it today when will I finish it. Then of course I laughed. I haven’t truly finished a quilt in ages. That’s a shame. I am so ADD when it comes to creative projects that I cannot manage to finish one before I am tempted to start another just because the fabric is beautiful, soft, colorful, whatever. I am a sucker for a new line of fabric and a new quilt pattern! I bet if I search through my stash at home, I may actual find a quilt project that is bright and bold as well as cozy. Oh well, perhaps next time I will give in to the temptation of a new project!

Reflection
Perhaps it’s because it gets dark so early, or maybe it’s because it is getting close to the holidays. But I always find myself to be more reflective at this time of year. I seriously try to practice gratitude throughout the year but each evening as I sit and ponder school work or my IB work I am continually grateful for the opportunity to work with amazing teachers in all areas of my life. I am truly blessed.

Mark celebrated his birthday. I love the fact that our birthdays are so close together. We get to celebrate the entire month! We decided to go out for Thai food, one of Mark’s favorites. The food was delicious and the company, terrific.

Farmer’s Daughter
This month I finished two blocks for the Farmer’s Daughter quilt. Since I was supposed to finish two every month since July, I think I owe Julie at least four more blocks. I think I had better get sewing!

Anticipating
Just about a year ago I caught the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Bug. I knew that’s what I had because of my irrepressible urge to go to Lowe’s and seek out paint swatches. The fun of course was in the search. I found my swatches and searched my stash for appropriate fabrics. I even spread this dread disease to my local quilt shop where they actually put up a display of fabrics we had selected to match the swatches.
Then, on Black Friday, when the first clue was released, I found myself otherwise engaged. Yup, I never made the quilt. But this year, because my life is so much calmer (don’t laugh), I am anticipating the color announcement with bated breath. You see, in reality, I know that I will not be able to fully participate in the mysterious journey. Isn’t the joy is in the journey not the destination?

Typical Sunday Evening
Sunday Night Football and school work. Always happens that there is so much school work to do at the end of my weekend. I think I had better put more time into school work on Saturday. This Sunday evening I also left all of the laundry to fold until after the start of the football game. It is easy to loose track of what I am doing because it is just Marlo and I in the evening since Mark leaves for work around 3:30.
Marlo is beginning to spread out in the house. It used to be that he would only lounge around on the first floor. Now, he has been taking full range of the house. He snuggled on Mark’s side of the bed as I folded laundry on my side of the bed.
That Marlo is becoming one spoiled kitty!

The Perfect Fall Day
Somedays, like today, are just perfect. I didn’t sleep too late. I was able to complete work for a class that I am taking. I was able to work on some school stuff and plan for some business ideas that I have. And, after all that, I was able to sew.
It was a good thing I was able to sew. You see, I am late for this month’s and last month’s swap. with any luck I will finish my two blocks for this month by the time I head to bed this evening. My Farmer’s Wife swap buddie sent me my September blocks with a special treat, a quilted pouch just the rich size for my i-pad mini.
Isn’t it adorable! The blocks are also great. This month I received number 8 and number 12. Number 8 is the Bouquet block....
Number 12 is the Broken Sugar Bowl...
Seriously, I had better get a move on. I am working on the odd number blocks and I am finally working on number 7, Birds in the Air. Twelve half square triangles, that is a nightmare for me! I will finish them tonight!
