Seriously difficult to get to work on time. I am so not a morning person. Thursday with only two more school days this week to get through. Fortunately, on this Thursday, there was a faculty meeting scheduled so I would only be working one job. As the week moves on, I get more and more tired.
Trying to arrive on time to work. Unfortunately, 8:09 won’t get me to school by 8:15. Sometimes I just need to admit, it’s not going to happen today! A busy day and a day when I needed to remember a birthday gift and a couple of things for my students. Unfortunately, none of it happened. I survived the day. Once home I was greeted by this gorgeous blue sky and a promise of a 2 day weekend!Almost forgot a late trip to Target... Wandering the aisles because I could not remember what I was supposed to buy other than coffee filters for a school project and an anniversary card. After a good half hour I decided to head home, again.
Sleeping late midweek was a real treat. I woke up feeling refreshed and relatively pain free. A bonus half a personal day allowed me to spend a late night out with the kiddos without having to worry about not getting enough sleep. There was lunch at home then a quick trip to school. There was a quick trip to the shop.Wednesday is the first day of the week that I spend any time at the shop. I am at school Monday through Friday. I am at the shop, Wednesday through Friday, after school, and then all day on Saturday! I am excited to get to the shop, and just as excited to head home. Most evenings, this is where you will find me. Working on shop business, working on school. Most evenings, like this evening, I find it hard to drag myself to bed no matter how tired I am. I am working hard to create balance. Time for me, to quilt, scrapbook and read. Time for Mark, time for us, to have quiet conversations to make plans to just enjoy each others’ company.
Tuesday’s story seems to focus on the evening and spending quality time with these two. The Jason and Jessica show had our server in tears of laughter. “I have never had as much fun waiting on any table.” We laughed, giggled and celebrated our very special family.
Monday mornings are so very difficult. My alarm is set for 6:45 but this bright Monday morning I finally got out of bed at 7:24. Not bad for a night person. A new regimen in the evening with my medication and I am hoping that there will be some relief in the next couple of days. Before I know it I am late out the door and I am running. Monday mornings, after Spring Break, are especially difficult! A relatively normal day at school and a relatively normal day at home. Except of course for taxes.
Down the hall Mark works on pulling everything together. This is our first year owning the quilt shop and the income taxes are nothing like what we thought they would be; in terms of preparation, primarily. We are doing our best but the stress is palpable. Deep breaths and calm voices are what will see us through.
Monday, afterschool for me, major cleanup from the havoc that was Sunday when I was trying to pull together everything for our taxes. Hopefully I will never let things get as bad as they did this year! Live and learn. Taking photos of everything around me causes me to reflect more-so on the blessings and less on the stress.
Really excited to take part in Week in the Life yet again. Welcome to my week and my life. I am a Sunday starter, if I were to try and begin on Monday, I would feel that it wasn’t quite right. I take my Sundays as a way to regroup and manage my week. I generally do not go into the quilt shop on Sundays. I need a day at home. Most Sundays are filled with lots of laundry and lots of school work. Since this Sunday was the end of spring break, I didn’t have much work to do. Well, that is until I was told that the personal taxes needed to go to our business accountant on Monday. Boy o’boy. You should have seen me move!
Seriously though, I was able to finish my sample for the block of the month that we are starting in May. I was able to cook a ham for dinner with all the proper side dishes. Managed to remember to test my sugar once. Managed to get 2 loads of wash done and I manage to get in bed before 1am Monday. Those are some pretty big accomplishments in my world. The sun was shining, the bunnies were in the yard and the wind chimes created a lovely serenade through all of it!
Thirty years ago this beauty joined our family and I will be forever grateful that I get to call her my daughter and my friend. Jessica you are one of my favorite travel companions, one of my closest friends and one of the nicest people I know. I am so proud of the woman you have become. I am so happy that we were able to talk on the phone today. Enjoy this day, have fun and celebrate! I am thrilled that we will all get to celebrate you and Jason on Tuesday. Please know that I am very proud of you and wish you the best. The world is your oyster, enjoy!
Seriously, isn’t he just the cutest? Jason, I am so very proud of you. You have become a very kind and principled young man. Today I celebrate you. Not only who you are now, but who you will become on your journey. I am just a bit sorry that we were not able to spend this day together although I know we will catch up in the next couple of weeks. I wish you all the happiness in the world! I cannot be the mother of a 32 year old!
Bunkey turned 60 just a week ago. As I sit here this evening I am amazed at her resilience. No one I know would handle all that she has handled in quite the way she has handled it. This latest round of chemo is taking its toll on my dear friend. She works hard to manage the syptoms without taking any steps back. Each day she pulls herself up and out. She pushes herself to walk one more block or to try to use her oxygen machine less or to take herself to the back porch and read instead of giving into a nap. She is stronger and braver than anyone I have ever met. Glad she has made it to 60 for purely selfish reasons, I don’t know what I would do without her friendship. Praying for good news when she has her next round of scans. Spending time with her whenever I can.
Saturday, April 1st, we celebrated our first anniversary at the shop. What a great day we had! So many wonderful customers, who are now friends, joined us for a great day! Looking back, I cannot believe that we have come as far as we have. Seriously, we now have very little room to move in the shop. Last year we were busy looking for creative ways to make the shop look full. Our class list has expanded and we are busy planning for this years’ Row by Row, holiday samples and special events.
This year we supported Project Linus with blankets and quilts, Meals on Wheels with placemats, Ryans Case for Smiles with Pillowcases, a Girl Scout Silver Project with fabric, quilts and time. We have provided support for women through Distributing Dignity donations. Serving our local community is very important to me and that is one thing I hope to expand during our 2nd year in business. This has been a very exciting and fulfilling experience for me. I am looking forward to seeing where this year takes me!
