Bright white sheets and a freshly made bed, Sunday evening I am grateful for both! Staying home all day on a Sunday is one of my favorite things. It gives me the opportunity to catch up on my "home" chores which includes laundry and a bit or organizational work. Usually it is also the day when I catch up with school work although that did not fair so well today! I did quite a bit of cleaning out in the studio which is where I was also able to catch a bit of football on tv. All in all, not a bad day!
Grateful for the gift of flowers this late in the fall and a little late start on a Saturday which gave me time to walk around the yard and take a few photos. Usually Saturday is an early "demo day" but this Saturday was a little later start and I was grateful for the little bit of extra sleep!
This tree makes me smile. I planted this tree in the yard in the fall of 2007 in the hopes that one day it would shade the corner of the house. Mission Accomplished! Not only that, the color it produces is amazing. Grateful for the beauty of fall and the stark contrast of a leaf-losing tree against a gorgeous autumn sky. Wonderful.
Grateful for the opportunity to vote for a new governor, it has been a very long 8 years. Also grateful for a much better school day. Sometimes things just seem to click! Finally, new eyeglasses, so very grateful! Today has been a real blessing and I get to end my evening with the sound of rain outside my bedroom window. Wonderful!
Grateful for this evening, truly needed to be done with the work day about 2 hours after it started. On my way back from Target I captured a glimpse of the waning full moon, Beaver Moon, and I decided that it is absolutely the best representation of how grateful I am that it is evening and really close to bedtime!
Grateful for the opportunity to experience a dream come true! I have always wanted to own a quilt shop. Each day I head to the store I realize how fortunate I am to be living my dream. Seriously, I get to play with fabric! I work with wonderful women who inspire me on a regular basis. The have remarkable integrity and truly care about everyone that enters our shop. I have been fortunate to meet some of the kindest and most generous women; not to mention how really talented they are. We share our time and our shop with people from all walks of life. We share our stories, our worries, our tragedies and our compassion. We lift each other up and sit beside each other as we work through situations no one should ever have to face. Our quilt shop is truly a gift and I am grateful every day!
October has mostly come and gone with very little posting. I have decided that at my age I cannot live an exciting action filled life and write about it also, I get too tired! Back on October 15th, after a busy morning at the shop, I rode the train into Philly to volunteer at Bloktoberfest. This event has been a pet project of Jason’s for several years. The weather was wonderful and I had the opportunity to work the Ballast Point beer tent which was also manned by a few people that I knew. I poured beer all day, and I had fun. Every once in a whilte Jason would stop by and every once in a while I would go for a walk. I am so glad that we have forged new traditions. I think I will be pouring beer at Bloktoberfest for as long as I am able and that’s a good thing!
As we move closer to the holidays, I usually take down the quilts that are on the wall. The truth is, there have been several quilts on the wall and very little quilting getting done. So last night I took down the Winding Ways quilt that I had started back in Seattle, 2011. I did fiish a few more blocks, but now I am at the point where I have to cut some more fabric and too many other things need to get done in the meantime. I will probably get back to this quilt in the new year.
Then there are the baby quilts. This one has been on my wall since forever! The baby was actually born in August so I have a few more months before I will consider it late. I also have at least 4 other baby quilts that will need to be made for babies that were just born or babies that are due in the next day or two. Not like I am cutting it close! I am finally set up to be able to cut out quilts in my studio. My husband will be happy that I do not keep taking over the kitchen table and I am thrilled that I will not need to keep running up and down the stairs. Not that I am doing much running these days! :-)
Grateful for any time I get to spend with this young lady and the rest of her family! Friday saw us at Shawnee for their fall performance, Captain Fantastic. Mark and I started the evening with dinner out and then met my mom, sister and all of my nieces for Olivia’s performance. She played a “tough” girl, you know the kind, which is really so not her. Just as the 2nd act was beginning, the electricity went out. The actors were so cool, they acted like it was part of the play. Generators brought the emergency lights on and the play continued. Immediately following the curtain, the building was evacuated. Such an eventful evening!
Just look at that mess. Unfortunately, that is how I clean. I pick everything up and place it on my bed. Most nights I don’t get through the whole mess so I end up with piles of stuff on the floor next to my bed. Monday I was so grateful because I finally got through the whole mess. No huge pile next to my bed. Nothing but quilts on top of my bed. It was a good thing! I came home from work and crashed at 4:30. I didn’t wake up until 7:30. Never could have done that with a big pile of messiness on the bed!
